Grand Valley State defeated Quincy, 1-0, in its season opener Saturday. The lone goal of the game came at 36:31 in the second half by GVSU sophomore Mirela Tutundzic on a penalty kick. The Lakers are 1-0 on the year.

GVSU took 21 shots and held Quincy to just five. Senior goalie Melissa Henson made three saves, while Lindsay Ringkamp made 13 for Quincy.

The Lakers will travel to California for their next three games. GVSU will play Sept. 4 against Cal State, Sept. 5 vs. Dominican and finish the trip on Sept. 7 against San Francisco St.
