Final Stats

Denver, COLO. - Junior goalkeeper Kristina Nasturzio notched her second shutout in as many matches and the #2 Grand Valley State Lakers moved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Regis University 1-0 on Sunday. Nasturzio recorded two saves on the day to blank the Rangers, who were outshot 14-4. Junior Katy Tafler scored her first goal of the season to secure the win for the Lakers, burying a feed from fellow junior Colleen Hillgard in the 38th minute.

Tafler took six shots during the game and put three on frame. Five other Lakers also put shots on net during the match. The Lakers pressed during the first half, out-shooting the Rangers by a 7-1 margin. It looked like GVSU would take the lead 34:40 into the match, but a shot by Tafler rang off the post. She would bury her next chance, putting the Lakers up 1-0 after 37:47 minutes of play.

The Rangers did not record a shot on goal until the 54th minute, when Carter Connett had a header chance, but Nasturzio was up to the challenge and kept GVSU up 1-0. RU's only other shot on goal came at the 66:41 mark, when Mallory Pillard tested Nasturzio.

The win, combined with the Lakers' 1-0 victory over the Colorado School of the Mines on Friday, advances GVSU's record to 2-0 on the year. The team's next match is on Friday, Aug. 31. It will be the home opener for the Lakers, who host Missouri-St. Louis with an opening kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
