MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team fell to Saint Anselm, 19-9, on Saturday morning at Grappone Stadium.
The Lakers wrap up their spring break trip with a 1-2 record and prepare for their home opener on Tuesday, March 12 against Indiana Tech at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm, who is receiving votes in the most recent IWLCA poll, moves to 2-1 on the season.
Saint Anselm scored five straight goals to lead 5-0 by the 12:52 mark. A tally from sophomore Ali Dixon ended the streak, but GVSU scored just two more goals in the first half. The Hawks went on to score four more goals for a 9-3 halftime score.
Sophomore Brooke Ingraham found the net just 26 seconds into the second stanza, but Saint Anselm responded with an 8-1 run to lead 17-5 by the 14:22 mark.
GVSU ended the game on a 4-2 run of its own including back-to-back goals by freshman Taylor Bierwagen, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
The Hawks owned 30-17 edge in shots and 15-11 advantage in draw controls. The Lakers picked up 10 ground balls, but had 13 turnovers. Saint Anselm converted five of its seven free-position shots, while GVSU was limited to just four which two found the back of the net.
Sophmore keeper grabbed five saves in the loss. The Hawks keepers Allee Ramzi and Jane Bunn split time in the net with Ramzi recording all five saves.
For Saint Anselm, Marissa Daly tallied five goals, while Kaityln Stazinski netted four. Both players also tallied an assist on the day.
