Bay City, Mich. - Senior Ashley Smith was tabbed as the GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday (Oct. 7). Smith helped lead the Lakers to a first-place finish at the Zippy Invitational in Fairlawn, Ohio on Tuesday. GVSU placed three golfers in the top-10 and four in the top-15.

Out of the 15-team field, 11 schools were Division I programs. Smith and the Lakers used a team score of 932 (+76) to finish three strokes ahead of second-place Toledo (935, +79) and 21 shots ahead of the host school, Akron, who placed third with a score of 953 (+97).

Smith used rounds of 77-73-80 for a total score of 230 (+14) and finished just four strokes back of the tournament medalist and one shot out of second place. It was the last tournament of the fall season for GVSU, as the Lakers also won the Ferris State Invitational (Sept. 5), the Laker Classic (Sept. 8), and the Bing Beall Classic (Sept. 28) out of the six tournaments they competed in during the fall.
