ANGOLA, Ind. - Grand Valley State's women's golf coach Lori Stinson will be inducted into the Tri-State University's Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual homecoming banquet on Friday, October 7. There will be three student-athletes and a former coach will be inducted in the class.
The Hall of Fame inductees are honored each year during homecoming. The purpose of the awards is to recognize and honor individuals who have made exemplary contributions to Tri-State University athletics.
Former Zollner Golf Course Golf Professional Lori Stinson had a very dynamic five years at TSU. When she arrived at Tri-State in 1994, there was no such thing as a women's golf team, but that changed very quickly. Stinson started the women's golf program in the fall of 1994 and within three years she led her team to a NAIA National Championship. Stinson was also named the NAIA Coach of the year. The 1997 women's golf team is one of two teams in TSU's history to win a NAIA National Championship.
"In 1994, Coach Lori Stinson became the Head Golf Professional at TSU's Zollner Golf Course," said current athletic recruiting coordinator and former Zollner golf professional Walt Lilley. "She immediately began recruiting for the first women's golf team in the school's history. After only three years of recruiting, Coach Stinson was able to develop a team that not only became nationally ranked, but would go on to win the 1997 NAIA National Women's Golf Championship. Women's golf is here, at TSU, because of her dedication and commitment to the program she began. As a fellow golf professional and a personal friend, it is exciting to have Coach Lori Stinson being inducted into TSU's Athletic Hall of Fame."
