Aug. 5, 2008

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State Director of Athletics, Tim Selgo, announced today that Rebecca Mailloux has been hired as head women's golf. Mailloux replaces Lori Stinson who resigned after nine years to join a family business in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Mailloux joins Grand Valley State after a four-year stint as head coach at St. Leo University in Florida. She guided St. Leo to five top-10 finishes during the 2007-08 campaign, including a second-place finish in the Saint Andrew's Spring Invitational, a third-place finish in the St. Leo Fall Invite and a fourth-place finish in the Bubba Watson Invitational. St. Leo competes in a conference that boasted five-of-the-top seven teams (Rollins, Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Barry and Lynn) in the final DII Golf Coaches Association poll. Rollins captured the 2008 NCAA DII National Championship, while Nova Southeastern finished second and Grand Valley State third.

"I am extremely excited to be named the head women's golf coach at Grand Valley State," said Mailloux. "This is an incredible opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started."

Mailloux, a 2001 graduate of the University of South Florida, spent two years on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Futures Tour. She notched a career-best 15th-place finish at the Denver Futures Classic where she shot 74-74-72--220. Rebecca gained full exempt status in her second year. Mailloux attended Longwood College her first two years before transferring to South Florida where she played at No. 3 on the golf team and helped the Bulls win the Conference USA championship twice and reach the NCAA Tournament her junior and senior years. She won medalist honors in the Longwood Invitational as a freshman. Mailloux, native of West Warwick, R.I., qualified for was the Rhode Island women's amateur champion from 1996 to 2000, finished second in the Massachusetts Open in 2001 and came back in 2003 to capture the championship. She was female athlete-of-the-year in Rhode Island in 2002.

"We are pleased to have Rebecca lead our women's golf program," said Selgo. "Rebecca did a great job in building the St. Leo women's golf program and we feel she is the perfect fit to continue the proud tradition that our women's golf program has established."

Grand Valley State, which finished third at the 2008 NCAA DII Women's Golf National Championships, returns four of its top five golfers that competed in the NCAA Championships and captured the 2008 GLIAC Title.
