Rochester, Mich. -
Grand Valley State golfer, Allie Tyler, advances to 93rd Michigan Women's Amateur quarterfinals. Tyler rallied for a 2-up win over Eastern Michigan University golfer, Darby Peters of Lake Orion. During Tyler's first match, she lost the second hole to Sarah Johnson, but won the third hole, took a 2-up lead and stayed in front the rest of the match. Tyler, who last month won the Women's City Championship, was the only golfer among eight Grand Rapids area players, including fellow Grand Valley State golfers, to reach the Sweet 16. Tyler is to play Gabrielle Yurik, a 14-year old of Oakland, in a quarterfinal match Friday afternoon. Semifinals and finals are to be held on Saturday. The Lakers' Caitlin Bennett and Sarah Hoffman also participated in the 2009 Women's Amateur, both losing in opening round of play. Bennett was knocked out by Christine Meier, 2-up while Hoffman was ousted by University of Michigan golfer Meagen Bauer, 5 and 3.
