Grand Valley State's women's golf team earned numerous awards following its second place finish at the 2005 Division II National Championships. The Lakers tallied a four round +52 score of 1220 to take second place, which was the highest finish in school history.
For the second consecutive season, senior Melissa Sneller was named the GLIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year. She claimed her second GLIAC Championship individual title this spring by tallying a two-round total of 147. Sneller finished fourth at the GLIAC Championships in 2003 and tied for second place as a freshman in 2002. She claimed the 2005 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship Individual title, finishing even par with a four round score of 292. Sneller was also named to the All-Great Lakes Region Team this season and earned National Golf Coaches Association First Team All-American accolades.
Head coach Lori Stinson was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. Stinson, in her sixth season at Grand Valley, led the Lakers to their third straight GLIAC Championship title. Stinson was also named the East Region Coach of the Year. She has led GVSU to the NCAA Division II Championships five times since she has been at the helm of the Lakers. Last season, Stinson was named the 2004 National Golf Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year. Stinson has earned the GLIAC Coach of the Year award twice, in 2004 and 2002.
Junior Laura Leatherman earned All-GLIAC Second Team, All-East Region, and NGCA Academic All-American honors. Senior Shannon Briggs earned All-GLIAC Second Team. Junior Enid Gage was named to the All-East Region and NGCA Division II All-American Honorable Mention teams. Junior Kristi Vienneau was named to the All-GLIAC First Team. Junior Melissa Riegle earned NGCA Academic All-American honors.
