Day One Results

Findlay, Ohio - Grand Valley State women's golf team is in fourth place after the opening day of the 2009 NCAA National Championship on Wednesday (May 13). It was the first of four days of golf in Findlay, Ohio, as the Lakers are just three strokes out of second place after a team score of 310 in the first round.

The Lakers are nine strokes behind leader Tarleton State (301), but within three strokes of both second-place Indianapolis (307) and Rollins (309). Nova Southeastern (314), Concordia-St. Paul (315), and Ferris State (316) are in spots five through seven behind GVSU.

Junior Caitlin Bennett fired a 74 on the opening day, placing her in a tie for third place, while fellow junior Ashley Smith notched a first-day 77, tying her for 15th place. Sophomore Kristina Langton shot a 79, tying her for 26th place and freshman Sarah Hoffman is tied for 31st after an opening round 80. Sophomore Allie Tyler shot an 85 and is tied for 62th place.

Thursday's round of the tournament has been pushed back to Friday due to weather issues. The teams and individuals will play 36 holes (rounds two and three) on Friday starting at 8:00 a.m.
