Coral Springs, Fla. - Grand Valley State University's women's golf team continued to earn postseason awards as the team competes at the NCAA National Championships. The National Golf Coaches Association announced their awards at the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet last night in Houston, Tx. GVSU had three members of the team earn awards at the banquet, headlined by Ashley Smith's Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Smith was named a member of the Duramed FUTURES Tour NGCA Honorable Mention All-American team. She was also awarded with a spot on the NGCA All-East Region team. After the first day of the NCAA National Championships, Smith leads the Lakers and is tied for eighth place overall with a two-over 74.
Head coach Lori Stinson, who was named the GLIAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year earlier this season, earned the nod as the Division II SkyCaddie NGCA East Region Coach of the Year. Stinson has guided GVSU to four GLIAC titles in the last six years and five since 2001. This is the third time that Stinson has led the Lakers to an East Regional title, with the first two coming in 2005 and 2006. This is also the third time that Stinson has earned the NGCA East Region Coach of the Year.
Kristina Langton, the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, was also a member of the NCGA All-East Region team. On the first day of the NCAA National Championships, Langton shot an 84.
