2012 Bing-Beall Round One Results

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's golf team has won two of the last three Bing-Beall Classic Tournaments (2011, 2009) and have put themselves in position to compete for a third, carding a first-round 312 to sit in second place.

It's the same first-round team score the Lakers shot in the first round last year in the tournament, except they are now trailing first place Ferris State (305) after day one.

As has been the case all season, sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich./Chippewa Valley) led the way again for GVSU, owning sole possession of the individual leaderboard top spot after carding a first-round 73 (+1).

Senior Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) shot a first-round 78 (+6) and is in 15th in the standings.

Freshman Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings, Mich.) tallied an opening round 80 (+8), while the final scored Laker in the first round is sophomore Molly Esordi (Grosse Ile, Mich.), who recorded an 81 (+9).

Junior Cassady Kauble (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) also competed for GVSU but carded the highest first-round score with an 84 (+12) and was not counted in the team score.

Junior Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy), competing as an individual, turned in an impressive first-round 77 (+5) and is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard.

Behind Ferris State and GVSU in the team standings are Findlay (316), Northwood (319) and Ashland (323) to round out the top five.

The final round of play will take place on Monday (Oct. 8) at the Findlay Country Club.
