2012 Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite Final Results

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's golf team finished sixth in the only home event of the season for the Lakers, carding a second round 332 on Sunday (Sept. 30) to finish at 655 (+79) for the tournament.

The tournament was held on the campus of GVSU at The Meadows Golf Club.

Two different Laker golfers owned the best rounds of each day. Following sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich./Chippewa Valley) and her even-par 72 on Saturday led the field, senior Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) shot the best round of Sunday with a 74 (+2).

Weinstein finished fifth in the individual results, using her first round 81 to finish at 155 (+11) for the tournament.

Freshman Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings, Mich.) improved in her second round, shooting a 79 (+7) after a first-round 85 to finish in a tie for 18th on the individual leaderboard with a total of 164 (+20).

Junior Cassady Kauble (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) used a second straight 85 (+13) to finish at 170 (+26) for the tournament and in a tie for 33rd.

Junior Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) had a second-round 94 (+22) to finish at 180 (+36) for the tournament and in 59th.

Hartigan, who led the tournament after the first round, was disqualified during her second round of play.

Sophomore Molly Esordi (Grosse Ile, Mich.) shot an 89 (+17) in her final round to finish at 171 (+27) for the tournament and in a tie for 36th.


 

 

Ashland took home the team title with a two-round total of 634 (+58), just one stroke ahead of California (Pa.) (635, +59) in second. Findlay (643, +67) was third and Ferris State (650, +74) finished fourth. Missouri-St. Louis finished just ahead of GVSU in fifth by one stroke, using a second-round 331 to finish at 654 (+78) for the tournament.

California (Pa.)'s Kim Thomas took home the individual title with a two-round 151 (+7). The top six individuals were all separated by one stroke each in the final standings.

The Lakers will travel to Findlay, Ohio to take part in the Bing-Beall Classic next Sunday (Oct. 7) and Monday (Oct. 8) at  the Findlay Country Club.
