Sept. 30, 2002

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State shot a team-record 624 at the Findlay Fall Classic to come from behind and win by four strokes on Monday (Sept. 30). The Lakers broke the 18-hole team scoring record with a 316 on day one, but were still five strokes behind Ferris State. GVSU topped the record for the second straight day with a 308 on Monday to earn the victory. The 624 36-hole total for the Lakers is 25 strokes better than their next best performance of the 2002 season. Grand Valley State's Kristi Vienneau and Melissa Sneller tied for second individually and were two of four Grand Valley golfers in the top five. It is the first win of the 2002-03 season for GVSU.

Vienneau fired a 78 and 75, while Sneller shot 76 and 77 for their 153 totals. It was the second top five finish for both players this season. Melissa Riegle shot 76-78=154 to finish in fourth place. GVSU's Nicole Augustine shot 79-76=155 to place fifth and Kate McDonald placed ninth with an 80-81=161, with both playing as individuals. Shannon Briggs and Ellie Saladin rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with 167 and 169, respectively.

The Lakers wrap up their fall season with a tournament next weekend (Oct. 7-8) at the Oakland Invitational.
