Final Results

Findlay, Ohio - Grand Valley State had three of the top five golfers at the Bing Beall Fall Classic, which concluded on Tuesday (Sept. 29) in Findlay, Ohio. The Lakers recorded a team score of 619 and ran away with the tournament, winning by 27 strokes.

GVSU followed up a solid opening round score of 314 with an even better 305 on Tuesday for a 619, good for +43. The Lakers finished well ahead of Ashland, which placed second with a 646 (+70). California PA (652, +76), Otterbein (655, +79), and Findlay (664, +88) rounded out the top five schools in the 10-team tournament.

Senior Caitlin Bennett notched consecutive rounds of 76 for a total score of 152 (+8). She tied with Dianne Luke of California PA and Luke was the winner of the playoff, placing Bennett in second. Senior Ashley Smith fired the best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 73. Smith coupled that with an opening day 80 for a 153 (+9) and finished in third place. Junior Allie Tyler rebounded after a first day score of 82 for a 74 on Tuesday, combining for a 156 (+12) and tying for fifth.

Sophomore Sarah Hoffman shot rounds of 80 and 82 for a 162 (+18) and tied for 12th place. Freshman Ashley Beard followed an opening round 78 with an 86 on Tuesday for a 164 (+20), tying for 16th place. Freshman Danyelle Kauble competed as an individual and tied for 18th with a score of 165 after rounds of 85 and 80.
 

 

GVSU competes again at the Zippy Invitational in Fairlawn, Ohio next week (Oct. 5-6).
