Day One Results

Findlay, Ohio - Grand Valley State opened the Bing Beall Classic in Findlay, Ohio on Monday (Sept. 28) with a 13-stroke lead over the competition, as the Lakers totaled a team score of 314 (+26). All five GVSU golfers are in the top-15 and four Lakers rank in the top-10. Play will conclude on Tuesday.

The opening-round score of 314 placed Grand Valley State 13 shots ahead of second place Ashland (327, +39). Otterbein (332, +44) sits in the third place, while Findlay (333, +45) and California PA (335, +47) round out the top five schools. Overall, there are 10 teams participating in the tournament.

Senior Caitlin Bennett leads all golfers with a 76 in the first round. Bennett shot 39-37 to sit one shot ahead of Dianne Luke from California PA. Freshman Ashley Beard submitted her best round of the season, as she is tied for third place after notching a 78. Beard shot 41-37 on Monday.

Sophomore Sarah Hoffman and senior Ashley Smith are tied for seventh. Both golfers shot an 80 and used identical rounds to do so (41-39). Junior Allie Tyler is two strokes back of Hoffman and Smith, as she notched a 42-40 for an 82. Tyler is tied for 14th after the opening day. Playing as an individual, freshman Danyelle Kauble shot 43-42 for an 85 and is tied for 20th place overall.
