2012 Wolverine Invite Final Results

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The 12th-ranked Grand Valley State women's golf team shot an impressive 315 in the final round at the Wolverine Invite at the U-M Golf Course on Sunday (Sept. 23), climbing to an eighth-place finish against a bevy of Division I competition.

Sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich./Chippewa Valley) continued the trend of being the top scorer for the Lakers, shooting a final round 78 (+7) on Sunday to finish at 236 (+23) and in a tie for 17th on the individual leaderboard. Her six birdies in the tournament were tied for the second most in the entire field.

Junior Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) tied Hartigan for the best final round score for the Lakers, carding a 78 (+7) of her own, a huge improvement over her first day's scores. Ryan finished at 248 (+35) for the tournament and in a tie for 49th.

Freshman Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings, Mich.) had another solid performance in only her second collegiate tournament, turning in a final round 80 (+9) to finish in a tie for 29th in the individual standings with a three-round total of 242 (+29).

Senior Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) carded a final round 79 (+8) on Sunday to finish in a tie for 58th on the individual leaderboard, by far her best round of the tournament.

Sophomore Cassady Kauble (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) also competed but did not have her scores included in the team score. On Sunday, Kauble took advantage of the better weather and shot her best round of the tournament, turning in a final round 89.

Sophomore Molly Esordi (Grosse Ile, Mich.) also turned in her best round of the tournament, finishing with a final round 93 while competing as an individual.

The Lakers saw their team scores improve with each round, finishing with a three-round total of 978 (+126), only five strokes behind seventh-place North Texas (973, +121). Florida International and hosts University of Michigan shared the team title, both finishing at 930 (+78). Xavier, Illinois and Eastern Michigan all tied for third at 933 (+81) to round out the top five.
