Muncie, Ind. - Grand Valley State finished in third place at the Cardinal Classic on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 23) in Muncie, Ind. GVSU posted a score of 607 (+31) and finished six strokes behind Akron (601, +25), while the host school, Ball State, won the tournament with a 594 (+18).
The Lakers followed their Monday score of 305 by posting a 302 to finish ahead of Northern Arizona (611, +35), Indiana State (613, +37), and California (PA) (614, +38). GVSU and Akron entered Tuesday in a tie for second place.
Sophomore Allie Tyler fired a 71 on Tuesday, combining with a 79 on Monday for a 150 and a 10th place finish. Sophomore Kristina Langton recorded consecutive rounds of 76 for a 152 and finished 13th. Junior Caitlin Bennett was one stroke back at 153 (75-78) in a tie for 14th. Junior Ashley Smith shot a pair of 77's for a 154 and tied for 19th.
The medalist was Kristen Hill of Akron, who won a playoff over Simone DeSouza of California (PA). Both players tallied a 144.
