Muncie, Ind. - The Grand Valley State women's golf team is tied for second place after the opening day of the Cardinal Classic hosted in Muncie, Ind. GVSU posted an opening round score of 305 on Monday (Sept. 22), placing them in a tie with Akron. Both teams are three strokes behind Ball State, the host school.

Junior Caitlin Bennett led the Lakers with a score of 75 (36-39), tying her for seventh place. Sophomore Kristina Langton was one stroke behind with a 76 (37-39) for a tie at 10th place. Junior Ashley Smith and freshman Sarah Hoffman tied for 18th place with a 77, as Smith shot a 38-39 and Hoffman fired a 40-37.

The teams will complete the tournament on Tuesday (Sept. 23).
