Grand Valley State women's golf team finished in second place in its first tournament of the 2004 season. The Lakers tallied a two-day score of 607 at the Ferris State Bulldog Fall Invitational. Host Ferris State won the tournament with a total of 595.

GVSU shot a 301 on Saturday, followed by a 306 on Sunday. The Lakers were led by senior Melissa Sneller who finished in third place overall and first for GVSU. Sneller tallied a 75 and 73 for a two-day total of 148. Junior Kristi Vienneau tied for fifth place with a 152 (76, 76). Juniors Melissa Riegle (74, 80) and Laura Leatherman (76, 78) both tied for eighth place with a two-round score of 154. Sophomore Kate MacDonald tied for 19th place after shooting a 79 both days for a total of 158 and freshman Michelle Boogaard tied for 56th with a 173 (89, 84).

The Lakers will host the Radisson Riverfront Classic on Monday, Sept. 6 and Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the Meadows Golf Course on Grand Valley's campus. The tournament will feature 19 teams with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start both days.
