GVSU Finishes Second After Two-Hole Playoff

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State women's golf team finished second at the Laker Fall Invitational after Ferris State topped the Lakers on the second playoff hole. GVSU and FSU both finished the tournament with scores of 644. The two teams again tied on the first playoff hole, but the Bulldogs earned the win by going 3-under par on the second playoff hole. The Lakers shot a tournament low 318 in the final round to make up FSU's five shot advantage.

The Lakers were led by sophomore Melissa Sneller who shot 82 and 76 and finished in third place with a total of 158. Fellow sophomore Shannon Briggs shot 159 (78-81) to place fifth. Ellie Saladin shot a second round of 79 to go with her first round 85 and finished in 14th with a total of 164. Kristi Vienneau (166) and Kate McDonald (167) finished out the scoring for the Lakers.

Following Ferris State and GVSU in the standings were Nebraska-Omaha (646), Longwood (647), and Northern Kentucky and Quincy tied for fifth with a total of 666.

GVSU will play next at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational on Sept. 14-15 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
