2013 GLIAC Championship Round Two Results

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's golf team stayed near the top of the 2013 GLIAC Women's Golf Championship, as sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich./Chippewa Valley) extended her lead at the top of the individual leaderboard at Stone Ridge G.C.

The Lakers, who held a lead after round one of competition, slipped in to second after Ferris State put together an incredible team round of 305, a 16-stroke improvement over their first round score. The Bulldogs now lead with a two-round total of 626, while the Lakers are just three strokes behind at 629 after shooting a second-round 317 on Saturday (Apr. 27).

Leading the way, both for GVSU and the entire tournament, is Hartigan. She poured in five birdies on the day and shot a 73 (+1), the best round of the tournament by any player, and is leading the individual leaderboard by five strokes. She currently sits at 148 (+4) for the tournament. Hartigan is earning her result on the par fives, as she's leading the tournament in par five scoring with a three-under performance through two rounds. Tied for second in par five scoring is a group of four student-athletes at even for the tournament so far.

Freshman Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings, Mich.) turned in a second round 79 (+7) and is at 156 (+12) for the tournament, slotting her fifth on the leaderboard. Shipley also leads the field in par four scoring through two rounds.

Senior Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) is in a tie for 10th place after carding her second consecutive 80 (+8).

Junior Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) and senior Ashley Beard (Williston, N.D.) both shot an 85 on the second day of competition. Ryan is now at 165 (+21) for the tournament and tied for 16th, despite being one of the best par three players of the tournament so far. Beard is at 166 (+22) for the tournament and in 20th place.

After Ferris State (626) and GVSU (629), the top five is rounded out by Ashland (637), Findlay (646) and Northwood (680).

The third and final round of competition will begin on Sunday (Apr. 28) morning at Stone Ridge G.C.
