Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State is in second place after shooting 311 in the first day of action at the GLIAC Championships. The final round of 18 holes will be played on Sunday at the Riverside Golf Club in Pennsylvania. GVSU trails Ferris State by one stroke entering into tomorrow's round, but is 26 strokes ahead of third place Findlay.
Freshman Kristi Vienneau led the Lakers with a score of 75, which was the third best score of day one. Melissa Riegle was right behind Vienneau with a 76, and Melissa Sneller posted the fifth best overall score of the day at 78. Rounding out the scoring for GVSU was Nikki Augustine who shot 82.
The Lakers are trying to win their second GLIAC Championship in three years after taking the title in 2001. GVSU placed second in last season's championships.
