Northwood Invite Final Results

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's golf team placed three student-athletes inside the top 10, the only team in the field to do so, and finished third at the Northwood Invite on Sunday (Apr. 21) at Currie G.C.

The first round of competition on Saturday (Apr. 20) was lost due to inclement weather, leaving only a single round of play on Sunday to determine the champion.

Junior Veronica Ryan (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) led the way in the lone round, carding a 76 (+4) to finish in sixth on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich./Chippewa Valley) and freshman Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings, Mich.) both turned in matching rounds of 77 (+5) to finish in a tie for seventh.

Senior Marni Weinstein (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) finished 19th as the last scored Laker, turning in an 81 (+9).

The final Laker was junior Cassady Kauble (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central), who tallied an 82 (+10).

Playing as individuals, sophomore Molly Esordi (Grosse Ile, Mich.) finished in a tie for 20th with a round of 82, while senior Ashley Beard (Williston, N.D.) finished 26th after shooting an 84.

Ashland won the tournament with a team round of 306, while the rest of the top five was Ferris State (310), GVSU (311), Findlay (312) and Northwood (326).

The Lakers will now prepare for their biggest tournament of the season to date. Up next is the GLIAC Women's Golf Championship, taking place this Friday through Sunday (Apr. 26-28) at Mohawk C.C. in Sycamore, Ohio.
