Erie, Pa. - The Grand Valley State Women's Golf Team posted a day one total of 623 at the GLIAC Championships in Erie, Pa. on Friday for second place, eight strokes behind tournament leader Ferris State (615). Junior Tracey Puckering is tied for second place in the tournament with an opening round 79 and second round 74 to lead the Lakers. The two day event will conclude tomorrow at the Lake View Country Club in Erie, Pa.

Ferris State currently sits in first place with a 615 (+39) as the top three Bulldogs are in the top four individual spots in the tournament with scores of 148, 153, and 155.

The Lakers are eight strokes behind the leaders as they were led by Junior Tracey Puckering who fired a front nine 36 but followed with a back nine 43 in her opening round before firing a two over par 74 in her final round of the day. Ashley Smith is tied for fourth overall as she opened with a score of 81 before shooting a 74 in the second round. Caitlin Bennett sits in sixth place overall firing an 81 and a 75 on the first day. Michelle Boogaard finished out the Laker scoring as she tallied an 83 followed by a 78 on the opening day. Caitlin Duval finished in a tie for 11th with an 86 and a 76 for the Lakers.

The Lakers will wrap up the two day tournament tomorrow looking for their fourth GLIAC tournament title in the past five years. Ferris State captured the title a year ago after GVSU posted three consecutive victories from 2003-05.
