Lakers Sign WisconSin-Green Bay Transfer Kari Witkowski

Grand Valley State women's basketball head coach Dawn Plitzuweit has announced the signing of Wisconsin-Green Bay transfer, Kari Witkowski. Witkowski, a 6-5 center, will be eligible to compete in the Northern Kentucky Tournament on Dec. 18-19.

Witkowski began her career at Wisconsin-Green Bay during the 2002-03 season. As a sophomore, she averaged 4.9 points, 2. 9 rebounds, and shot 50.0% from the field. She redshirted her third year and played her final year for the Phoenix during the 2005-06 season. During that season, she chipped in 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and shot 42.2% from the field. While at Wisconsin-Green Bay, the Phoenix made four straight NCAA tournament appearances.

"We are very excited to add Kari to our team," said head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. "She will add size and experience to our squad."

"This is definitely a win-win situation for both our team and for Kari," added Plitzuweit. "By coming to Grand Valley, she will be able to continue both her education and her collegiate basketball career."

Witkowski graduated from Horace Mann High School in 2002, where she played basketball, softball, soccer, and volleyball. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was the Student Council secretary for four years.

Kari graduated from Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in business and will be pursuing her master's degree at Grand Valley State.
