Burgess Delivers Second Child; Lakers Hold Annual Banquet

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State women's basketball coach Janel Burgess delivered her second child, Sydnee Marie, on April 13, adding a new member to the Burgess family and another member to the Laker basketball family. Less than a week later, GVSU held its annual women's basketball banquet on April 19.

Burgess delivered Sydnee Marie at 3:21 a.m. on April 13th, as she weighed seven pounds, five ounces and was 19 inches. Sydnee is the second child of Tim and Janel Burgess and will join older brother Eddie in the family. "We are all so happy to have a new Laker in our women's basketball family," said coach Burgess. "Sydnee has many Laker sisters who she will look up to for many years."

The following Sunday was the team's annual banquet, honoring the 2008-09 season, which ended in an NCAA Tournament berth and a 20-10 overall record. Awards given out at the banquet are listed below:

Laker Pride Award: Kim Wyngaard

Senior Award: Kim Wyngaard

Best Defensive Player: Elizabeth Van Tiflin

Best Rebounder: Elizabeth Van Tiflin

Best Playmaker: Emma Veach

Scholar Athlete of the Year: Emma Veach

Most Improved Player: Kelly Kretz
