Grand Valley State junior forward Niki Reams was named to 2005 Daktronics Women's Basketball All-Great Lakes Region First Team for her outstanding play during the 2004-05 season. Reams, along with Quincy senior Jessica Stuckman, were the leading vote-getters, and selected as the Great Lakes Region Co-Players of the Year.
Sports Information Directors from the member schools in the Great Lakes Region vote on the teams. The Great Lakes Region is made up of 13 GLIAC, 11 GLVC, and two independent schools (Tiffin and Oakland City).
Niki, the Women's Basketball GLIAC Player of the Year and the MVP of the GLIAC Tournament, tops the Lakers in scoring (18.7), rebounding (9.0), and steals (2.2) per game. Reams has scored in double figures in 15 straight games for the Lakers and has also recorded 13 double-doubles this season.
The Lakers claimed their first-ever GLIAC Tournament title Saturday, with a 77-60 win over Gannon University. GVSU is currently ranked #16 in the nation and holds a 25-5 overall record. Grand Valley has been selected to host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship. #1-seeded GVSU will play #8 Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
