Laker Basketball to Host Playoff Doubleheader on Tuesday Night

Grand Valley State's basketball programs will each host a first round GLIAC Tournament game on Tuesday night (Mar. 2), as GVSU Fieldhouse Arena will be feature a playoff doubleheader at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. The women's team squares off with Lake Superior State in the night's first game, while the men battle with Wayne State in the nightcap. With victories, each team advances to the GLIAC Final Four later this weekend (Mar. 5-6).

On the women's side, Grand Valley State is the #3 seed in the tournament with an overall record of 18-9 and a GLIAC mark of 15-7. Lake Superior State enters as the #6 seed, as LSSU went 14-12 in the regular season, 11-11 in league play. The teams split the two meetings earlier this year, as GVSU easily knocked off Lake Superior State, 73-49, on Jan. 9 in Allendale, while LSSU defeated Grand Valley State, 69-62, on Feb. 18 in Sault Ste. Marie. The other three conference tournament games on the women's side are:

#8 Northwood at #1 Michigan Tech, 5:30 p.m.

#7 Ashland at #2 Northern Michigan, 7:00 p.m.

#5 Hillsdale at #4 Findlay, 6:00 p.m.

The GVSU men are the North Division Champions and the #2 seed in the tournament, as the Lakers owned a 20-7 overall record, 16-6 in league play. Wayne State is the #7 seed with a record of 14-12 overall and 12-10 in the GLIAC. Similar to the women's side, these two teams split their earlier meetings, with each team winning on the other team's home court. Grand Valley State won at WSU, 57-48, on Jan. 23 in Detroit, while the Warriors knocked off GVSU, 70-56, in Allendale last Thursday night (Feb. 25). The remaining three men's games in the GLIAC Tournament are:

#8 Ashland at #1 Findlay, 8:00 p.m.

#6 Lake Superior State at #3 Hillsdale, 7:30 p.m.

#5 Ferris State at #4 Saginaw Valley State, 7:30 p.m.

In both tournaments, the four winning teams advance to the GLIAC Final Four on the campus of the highest remaining seed. Semifinal games will be played on Friday (Mar. 5) at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with the conference championship on Saturday (Mar. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
