Bay City, Mich. - GVSU sophomore guard Emma Veach was named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 8), as released by the league offices. The Lakers' leader in points and rebounds this season, Veach averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in a pair of Grand Valley State wins over Findlay and Hillsdale. GVSU is 16-5 on the year with a 13-3 record in conference play.

The Lakers pushed their home record to 9-3 with wins over the Oilers and Chargers, who are first and second place in the GLIAC South Division, respectively. Against Findlay on Thursday night (Feb. 4), Veach totaled 13 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals in the 77-51 victory. She did not miss a shot in 31 minutes, shooting 5-of-5 from the field (making her only three-point attempt) and connecting on both free throws.

Veach then put together her third double-double of the season and fifth of her career with team-highs of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in the 77-67 win over Hillsdale on Saturday night. She shot 4-of-6 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line, without turning the ball over in 37 minutes.

This season, Veach leads the team in scoring (12.3 ppg.) and rebounding (5.9 rpg.) and is second on the Lakers in assists (84), steals (40), and blocks (11). It is the second time in her career she was tabbed the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week, as she also won the award on Nov. 25, 2008.

The Lakers head to the Upper Peninsula this week (Feb. 11-13) for a pair of North Division games against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.
