Grand Valley State will host an event to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day Saturday, February 6. The GVSU athletic department is teaming up with the Movement Science Department and the Women's Center to welcome young girls to GVSU's campus for an afternoon of activities. The event, which will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena, will include a variety of sports (soccer, volleyball, and basketball) led by group of GVSU's student-athletes. The day will conclude after the women's basketball game with an autograph session involving members of the women's basketball team and the National Championship women's soccer team at 8:00 p.m.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to partner with Movement Science and the Women's Center to bring middle school girls onto campus to interact with our female student-athletes," said Lisa Sweany, Senior Associate Athletic Director. "It is important that these young girls have female role models and understand the importance of an education. There is no better group to mentor them than the women that compete here at Grand Valley. It should be a fun and exciting day for all involved."
For more information about the day and to register for the free event, you can call the Women's Center at (616) 331-2748 or visit the celebrating girls in sports link.
