Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's women's basketball team moved into first place in the latest NCAA Great Lakes Regional poll that was released on Wednesday (Jan. 22). The Lakers are 16-1 overall and 6-1 in GLIAC action. GVSU is 2-0 with convincing victories at Ashland and against Ferris State since the first poll was released, in which the Lakers were third. The Lakers also moved up two spots in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 poll to seventh, their highest position of the season. Grand Valley plays at Lake Superior State (13-3) on Thursday. LSSU has won eight straight games and is a half-game ahead of GVSU in the GLIAC North standings at 7-1.
Following GVSU in the NCAA regional poll is Hillsdale with a 13-2 overall mark. Rounding out the top five are Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky, and Quincy, who are all from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
