Allendale, Mich. - Senior Jennifer Nielsen was named GLIAC Player of the Week after leading Grand Valley State to an 83-55 victory over Ferris State on Saturday. In the only contest for the Lakers last week, Nielsen scored 20 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the floor, including four-of-five from behind the arc. She also recorded six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the win. Nielsen is averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 assists on the year and leads the Lakers with 38 steals.

The Lakers are currently 16-1 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC. GVSU is ranked #9 in the last WBCA Top 25 Poll and #3 in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional poll. The Lakers will face Lake Superior State on Thursday (Jan. 23) in Sault Ste. Marie at 5:30 pm. LSSU has won eight straight games and is a half-game ahead of GVSU in the GLIAC North with a 8-1 record in conference action. GVSU will then travel to University Center to face Saginaw Valley on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 1:00 pm.
