Box Score

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State dropped a tough 74-73 overtime decision to St. Cloud State Friday night in the second game of the GVSU Days Inn Grand Haven Classic. GVSU falls to 1-1, while the Huskies improve to 2-0. GVSU will play #7 North Dakota Saturday at 3 p.m. in the GVSU Rec Center.

Grand Valley State led by as many as 17 points in the opening 20 minutes and led 33-20 at the half. The Lakers built a 42-28 at the 16:00 minute mark of the second half, but St. cloud State slowly krept back into the game behind the scoring and rebounding of center Erika Quigley. One of the biggest plays in the game came at the 4:16 mark of the second half when junior guard Niki Reams was called for a phantom foul, her fifth of the game with GVSU up 60-58. Reams tallied 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists in just 21 minutes of action. SCSU took a 61-60 lead on a three-point play by Katie Huschle with 4:02 remaining, but the Huskies were unable to put any further distance between themselves and Lakers in the remaining action. SCSU led 69-67 before freshman guard Crystal Zick drove the lane and fed junior center Jaida Bourke for a bucket with 3.2 ticks left to send the game into overtime.

St. Cloud State led 74-71 when Bourke hit a shot in the paint to pull the Lakers within one (74-73). However, neither team scored in the final 2:18 and the Huskies escaped with a 74-73 win.

In addition to Reams' 22 points, Zick chipped in 14 points and freshman guard Erin Cyplik added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore center Julia Braseth added seven points and Jaida Bourke six. GVSU shot 42.6 percent from the floor (29-68) and 55.6 percent from the charity stripe (10-18). SCSU, which outrebounded the Lakers 44-36, was led by Quigley's 35-point, 17-rebound effort. Sascha Hansen and Katie Huschle each tallied 10 points.
