#14 Grand Valley State won its eighth straight game as they defeated Northwood, 74-60 in Midland Thursday night. The Lakers improve to 19-3 overall and 12-1 in GLIAC play, while the Timberwolves fall to 6-14 and 2-11. The game concluded GVSU's four-game road stint and the Lakers will return to the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. against Findlay.
Grand Valley jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with back-to-back jumpers by Erika Ryskamp and Niki Reams. Northwood came back to take a 14-12 lead and went up by as many as seven points (24-17) with 9:45 left in the first half. GVSU then went on a 17-0 led by Julia Braseth's nine points to take a 33-24 lead. The Lakers held on to a seven point, 38-31, lead going into the half.
Ryskamp hit a three-pointer, followed by a Crystal Zick layup to start the second half and increase the Laker lead to 12 points. Northwood cut the lead to nine points with 16:33 left, but GVSU held on to a double-digit lead throughout majority of the second half.
Grand Valley State was lead by junior center Julia Braseth who tallied a career-high 23 points, while adding eight rebounds, and two blocks. Senior forward Niki Reams recorded 15 points, six rebounds, and a career-high five blocks. Sophomore guard Crystal Zick had 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds, while junior guard Erika Ryskamp added eight points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
