Houghton, Mich. - Grand Valley State dropped a 77-65 GLIAC decision Saturday afternoon in Houghton, Mich. to Michigan Tech. The Lakers fall to 9-11 overall and 6-6 in GLIAC action, while MTU improves to 12-8 and 7-5.

The Lakers started slow in the opening stanza, falling behind 16-3 in the first seven minutes. GVSU regrouped and pulled to within six (18-12) on a Julia Braseth jumper, but MTU went on an 11-3 run to close the half and led 29-15 after 20 minutes. The Huksies opened their largest lead of the game (38-20) at the 16:21 mark of the second half, however the Lakers outscored Michigan Tech 42-17 over the next 14:00 minutes to pull within two (65-63) on an Erika Ryskamp three-point play with 2:15 left. Junior guard Jessica Hart scored 11 points, nine of which came on three-pointers, while Julie Zeeff and Erika Ryskamp each tallied seven points in the scoring run. Michigan Tech missed a three-pointer and the Lakers had the ball with 1:53 remaining down by two. However, a turnover and foul resulted in a pair of made free throws by MTU to build a 67-63 lead. MTU was 12-12 from the charity stripe in the final 1:23 to preserved victory.

Julia Braseth led GVSU with 17 points, while Julie Zeeff added 13 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Hart chipped in a season-high 11 points, all in the second half. The Lakers shot 50 percent from the field (23-46) and outrebounded MTU 31-30, but GVSU turned the ball over 20 times compaired to just eight by the Huskies.

Grand Valley State will play the final game of the three-game U.P. road swing Monday at Lake Superior State.
