Grand Valley State dropped a 74-58 decision at Northern Michigan Thursday night. The Lakers fall to 9-10 overall and 6-5 in GLIAC play.

GVSU trailed 30-21 late in the first half, but outscored NMU 12-5 in the final five minutes to cut the Wildcats' lead to two (35-33) at the half. Grand Valley shot just 33.3% in the first half, while Northern Michigan connected on 54.5% of their shots.

A free throw by freshman forward Julia Braseth tied the score at 39-39 early in the second half, but a 10-0 run gave NMU a 49-39 lead. Northern Michigan never looked back and led by as many as 18 late in the second half.

Northern Michigan continued their hot shooting in the second half, converting on 50% of their shots, while holding GVSU to just 20.8%. Senior center Julie Zeeff and Braseth combined for 44 of the Lakers 58 total points. Zeeff added 10 rebounds with her 28 points and was 14-of-14 from the free throw line. Senior guard Cori Jewett and freshman Erika Ryskamp each added six points. Only five Lakers scored in the game.

GVSU will continue their trip up north as they will play Michigan Tech on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1:00 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Monday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
