Grand Valley State picked up its third consecutive GLIAC game as they defeated Mercyhurst College, 73-45, in Allendale Thursday night. The Lakers improve to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC.

GVSU recorded a 12-point halftime lead (36-24), after shooting 51.6% from the field and holding Mercyhurst to just 38.9%. In the second half, Grand Valley didn't let the Lakers of Mercyhurst score for 10 minutes and built a commanding 64-33 lead.

Nine players scored for GVSU, who was led by freshman forward Julia Braseth who recorded a career-high 18 points and added seven rebounds. Senior center Julie Zeeff also tallied 18 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots. Freshman guard Taushauna Churchwell scored 11 points, while dishing out six assists. Junior guard Janine Guastella added eight points off the bench for the Lakers.

Grand Valley will host Gannon University in another GLIAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised on WXSP.
