St. Cloud, Minn. - The Grand Valley State women's basketball team dropped a 70-47 decision at St. Cloud State Sunday (Jan. 4) afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn. The Lakers' two road opponents on its two-game road trip to open 2004 have a combined 22-4 record.
GVSU found itself in a hole early on, falling behind 38-22 after 20 minutes of basketball. The Lakers hit just 7-of-18 shots, while the Huskies hit 12-of-31 shots from the floor and were 11-11 from the charity stripe. SCSU also hit three three-pointers in the opening stanza, while GVSU was 0-2.
Freshman Julia Braseth notched her first career double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Cori Jewett scored eight points, while Julie Zeeff added seven. The Lakers, which started three freshmen, hit just 36.4 percent of its shots from the floor (16-44) and 12.5 percent from the three-point line (1-8).
Grand Valley State (3-7, 0-2) will return to action action Saturday (Jan. 10) at West Michigan rival Ferris State.
