Junior Nate Peck was named the GLIAC Men's Runner of the Week as he started off the 2006 season by winning the Aquinas Open in a time of 24:31.00. He broke his previous school record of 24:32.00. It marks the second consecutive year Peck has won the meet. He improved on his time from last year's meet by 27 seconds as he ran it in 24:58.00.

Peck is a two-time all-american in cross country and won eight all-american honors in his two years with GVSU.

The Laker men moved up to #4 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll. In the preseason poll last week, GVSU was #5. The Laker women are ranked #2.
