Pamona, Calif. - Sophomore Nate Peck led Grand Valley State to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA DII Men's Cross Country Championships in Pamona, Calif. Saturday afternoon. The Lakers' best-ever 4th-place finish with 131 points, was just four behind Chico State's 127 in third. Western State claimed the team title with a score of 51.
Peck finished 16th in a time of 32:10.9, but was closely followed by teammate Chris Pabst's 18th place finish in 32:23.7. Junior Ryan Holm crossed in 33:07 (32nd), while Robbie Young was 46th (33:12), Nic Gatlin 48th (33:21) and Blake Terhune 50th (33:23).
"I am so proud of how the guys ran today," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We faced some tough conditions today in terms of heat, but we kept grinding and ran through the finish. We had a nice pack running together and they did a great job of pushing each other throughout the race," added Baltes.
The Lakers' fourth-place finish is the highest in NCAA Championship competition in school history.
