Pensacola, Fla. - The Grand Valley State Men's Cross Country team raced at the National Championships in Pensacola, Fla. Saturday (Nov. 18) morning. Junior Nate Peck led the Lakers finishing with a time of 29:56.5, good for 14th overall. The Lakers finished with 168 points on the day good for fifth in the nation.

Peck ran most of the race with a pack of 15 runners in front of the other runners. The junior would finish the race in 14th place overall coming in with a time of 29:56.5. Ryan Holm also finished in the top 25 runners, clocking in at 30:17.4 which put him in 22nd place overall. Rounding out the top five for the Lakers were a group of runners who finished within less than a minute of each other. Chris Hammer finished in 40th place with a time of 30:57.6, who was followed by Chris Pabst (31:01.3, 43rd) and James Gale (31:12.0, 49th). Also running for the Lakers were Nic Gatlin (31:15.2, 51st) and Robbie Young (31:18.2, 56th).

"There is no doubt that we competed very hard and I am very proud of our student athletes," Head Coach Jerry Baltes said.

Nic Gatlin, Ryan Holm, and Chris Pabst all ran their final cross country race as Lakers. Junior Nate Peck will return in 2007 to defend his three consecutive Great Lakes Regional crowns.

"We will learn from the experience and look to get better for the 2007 season," Baltes commented.
