KENOSHA, Wis. - The Grand Valley State men's cross country team, ranked sixth in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, claimed its 11th straight NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday (Nov. 3) morning at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.
The Lakers used an incredible group run to claim the title, as four GVSU student-athletes crossed the line together to finish in the eighth through 11th spots in the results.
Junior Brent Showerman (South Lyon, Mich.) was the top finisher for the Lakers, crossing eighth with a time of 31:26 in the 10-kilometer course.
That finish began a string of four straight Lakers to cross together, as sophomore Alan Peterson (Ironwood, Mich./Luther Wright) was ninth (31:27), redshirt freshman Spencer Pageau (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) was 10th (31:28) and senior Jake Isaacson (Menominee, Mich.) was 11th (31:29).
The final scored GVSU student-athlete was junior Josh Moskalewski (Allendale, Mich.) who crossed in 24th with a time of 31:47.
The top five runners will all earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors for placing in the top 25 of the individual standings.
The Lakers claimed the team title with 62 points, outpacing Ashland (92), Ferris State (103), Cedarville (124) and Southern Indiana (124).
Cedarville's Matt Brooker won the event with a time of 30:35.
GVSU advances to the NCAA Division II National Championship with the performance and will compete in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday, November 17th.
