Linwood, Mich. - Grand Valley State won its eighth straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday afternoon (Oct. 24) in Linwood, Mich. The Laker men recorded a team score of 21, while GVSU sophomore Tyler Emmorey took home the first place crown. Saginaw Valley Sate placed second with 53 points, followed by Hillsdale (90), Wayne State (117) and Ferris State (153). GVSU will now prepare for the 2009 NCAA DII Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 7) in Kenosha, Wis. at 12:00 p.m.

The Lakers placed seven runners in the top-13 overall, including four among the top-five and six among the top-10. Emmorey led GVSU with a first place finish with a time of 24:38. Senior Ross Faasse placed second (24:42), followed by freshman Stephen Fuelling in fourth (24:54) and sophomore Anthony Witt in fifth (24:57). Emmorey, Faasse, Fuelling, and Witt all received First Team All-GLIAC honors, while Fuelling was named Freshman of the Year.

Receiving Second Team All-GLIAC were sophomores Jeff Nordquist who place ninth (25:13), Ryan Toth in 10th (25:17) and Nathan Knisely finishing 13th (25:24).

"Our front four runners had great races today and I was really proud of freshman Stephen Fuelling," said head coach Jerry Baltes, who received Coach of the Year honors. "We have a lot of work to do and we need to keep improving to keep our streak going."
