Grand Valley State hosted the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich. GVSU's men finished in second place in the 4K, with a total of 30 points, 16 points shy of first-place Calvin. Freshman Nate Peck finished in second place overall with a time of 11:52. Senior Ryan Cole took fifth place (12:02), sophomore Ryan Holm ran a 12:04 for seventh place, and Robbie Young placed 16th, running a 12:16. Junior Blake Terhune ran a 12:18, placing 19th and junior Dan Brown placed 24th in a time of 12:21.
The Lakers won the women's 4K and was led by senior Krista O'Dell, who won the race with a time of 14:09. Freshman Karlie Singleton finished in fourth place, running a 14:25, sophomore Sarah Jaquith tallied a 14:27 for fifth place, and Diana Martin-Painter took 10th with a 14:33. Freshman Susie Rivard posted a 14:46 for 16th place and freshman Bridgette Beeny ran a 14:49, finishing in 19th place overall. The Lakers tallied 20 points, 19 points ahead of second place University of Michigan.
The Lakers placed second in the women's 6K race with 90 points. Ferris State won the race with 56 points. Junior Adrian Chouinard finished in fifth place with a time of 22:51, while freshman Samantha Gordon took ninth, running a 23:15. Junior Megan Doerr tallied a 23:47 for 19th place, junior Jacquie Taylor posted a 24:10 for 28th place, freshman Stacey Kandas ran a 24:11 for 29th place, freshman Rosanne Chapman finished in 36th place with a 24:30, and freshman Rachel White ran a 24:47 for 44th place.
