Grand Valley State's men's cross country team displayed an outstanding performance at the Michigan Intercollegiate meet hosted by Oakland University. The Lakers finished in second place in the 4K and won the 8K. GVSU will compete in the GLIAC Championships hosted by Northern Michigan on Oct. 22 at 11:00 a.m.
The Lakers tallied 28 points in the 4K, just eight points more than first place Calvin College. Sophomore Nate Peck won the race with a winning time of 11:45.2. Junior Nic Gatlin finished in fifth place, running a 12:01.7, while junior Ryan Holm placed 10th with a time of 12:07.8. Sophomore Grant Fall ran a 12:10.2 for a 12th place finish.
Sophomore Robbie Young finished in 18th place (12:13.9), while senior Blake Terhune ran a 12:19.2 for 20th place.
The Lakers recorded 40 points for a first place finish in the 8K, while Saginaw Valley State took second place with 54 points. Pacing the way for the Lakers was redshirt freshman Chris Hammer who finished in second place overall with a time of 25:32.5. Sophomore Nick Polk finished right behind him with a time of 25:34.4 for second place, while redshirt freshman Tim Dalton placed ninth (26:03.7). Senior Jason Prowant ran a 26:07.2 for an 11th place finish and junior Casey Abston ran a 26:14.1 for 15th place.
