East Lansing, Mich. - The nationally-ranked Grand Valley State men's cross country team competed Friday afternoon at the Spartan Invitational. The Lakers participated in the event against the likes of Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, and Central Michigan. Grand Valley State and Michigan State each place six runners among the top 20, while Eastern Michigan put four among the top 20.

"It was nice to compete against some Big 10 and MAC schools and see where we stack up," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "I thought we represented ourselves well and I was pleased that we were able to equal Michigan State and place six among the top 20," added Baltes.

Grand Valley State's Tyler Emmorey finished third (25:20) overall and first among collegiate runners associated with a team. Simon Nyang crossed the finish line in 10th (25:20), while Ross Fasse also finished with an identical time of 25:20. Anthony Witt crossed in 14th (25:27), followed by Jeff Nordquist in 18th (25:35) and Paul Zielinski in 20th (25:39).
