Camp Details
Ever wondered what college athletics is like? Do you want to learn more about how to help yourself become a successful athlete? Do you have a sincere interest in the throwing events?
Come learn the throwing events with us here at GVSU Track & Field. We will take you through the basics of throwing event technique as well as give more advanced throwers specific technique instruction.
We will help athletes improve be discussing and participating in topics including:
Conditioning * Weight Training * Technique * Video Analysis * and Program Design
Over the past 4 years GVSU has developed one of the premiere throwing programs in the country with almost 30 NCAA National Championship qualifying marks as well as 7 NCAA All-American honors and one NCAA National Championship from our throwers alone. So come learn some of the secrets to our success.
Specifics
The throwing day camp will run during the day starting at 10:00AM and ending at 4:00PM. The day camp will run for four days starting June 9th and ending on June 12th. During this time GVSU T&F will provide lunches for the participants as well as a souvenir T-shirt.

Throwing and Training Shoes
Throwing Implements
Water Bottles

A love for the sport!
* Due to the intense nature of this camp it is highly recommended that participants be over the age of 14.
The clinic will focus on the shot put and discus throw but may include an introduction to the hammer and javelin.
Instructors
Jason VanElst will head the day camp and instruction. Jason is a 5 time NCAA All-American as well as the 2002 NCAA Weight Throw National Chamption, and USA T&F National Qualifier. Jason has qualified and particiapated in the NCAA National Meet in all of the throwing events except javelin and currently holds 5 GVSU throwing event school records. Currently Jason is a Graduate Assistant Coach with GVSU T&F.

Head Grand Valley Track and Field Coach Jerry Baltes will give a talk about college athletics as well as how to be a successful student althlete. Jerry has developed a winning program and has make himself one of the premiere Track coaches in the country directing GVSU T&F to 8 out of the last 10 GLIAC championships.
Experienced GVSU T&F athletes will be arround daily to create a very high level of individual instruction.

Coaches Special
Any High School Track and Field Coach looking to help increase their knowledge or to find new ideas may attend and participate in any one day or all days for a 1 time cost of $40.
