Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's track teams will host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 26-27) in the Laker Turf Building. This is the first year the Laker Turf Building will host the event and will feature top-athletes from all over the conference.
"We are excited for the opportunity to host the GLIAC Championships for the first time in the Laker Turf Building. It has been 10 years since we have hosted the Indoor Championships," said GVSU head coach Jerry Baltes. "Many of the top NCAA marks are from our conference. For example the top-four NCAA marks in the women's weight throw are all from the GLIAC. We take great pride in the opportunity to put on a great meet for the best track and field conference in division II."
The meet will get underway Friday at 3:50 p.m. with the start of the running events followed by the field events at 4:00 p.m. The women's pentathlon will kick off Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the men's heptathlon at 10:25 a.m. The men's heptathlon will resume on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. followed by the field events at 11:30 a.m. and running events at 1:15 p.m. The GLIAC Award ceremony will be held at approximately 4:30 p.m. once the meet has finished on Saturday.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to show case some of the best student-athletes in the country in the Laker Turf Building," commented Baltes. "Our squads will be ready to compete in hopes of bring home two GLIAC titles."
