Findlay, Ohio - Chris Pabst claimed the title in the 5000m run and the Laker distance medley team claimed top honors to lead the GVSU into first-place after the first day of competition at the 2006 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Findlay. The Lakers tallied 46 points, followed by Saginaw Valley State's 43. The second and final day will take place Saturday.
Pabst crossed the finish line in 14:44.22 to claim first-place in the 5000m run, while Grant Fall finished third (14:50.22). Three Lakers scored in the weight throw, led by Charles Smith's third-place showing (62-4). Nick Natale was fourth (57-2.25) and Kevin Kimpel sixth (55-5.50). Matt Epkey finished fourth in the long jump (21-4.00) for GVSU. The distance medley team crossed in 10:11.63 for the GLIAC title. Grand Valley State is seeking its seventh straight GLIAC T&F Indoor title.
