University Center, Mich. - Grand Valley State's streak of five consecutive GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field titles came to and end on Friday, May 2, finishing in second place with 231 points. The Lakers finished just 2.5 points behind first-place Ashland, who won with 233.5 points. GVSU claimed six individual first place finishes in the meet en route to the second place finish.
Nate Peck claimed a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.50, which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA national meet. Peck also finished first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:50.16, also good enough to provisionally qualify. Peck, Nick Polk and Grant Fall finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 5000-meter run, led by Peck's time of 14:55.28.
GVSU picked up 23 points in the 10,000-meter event, paced by James Gale and Ryan Holm, who finished first and second. Gale crossed the finish line in 31:23.16, while Holm was just four-hundredths of a second behind him, finishing in 31:23.20. Garron Lucius claimed a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at a time of 14.74 seconds, which was three-hundredths of a second out of first place.
The Lakers also performed well in the 400-meter hurdles, with Bill Makela claiming the victory with a provisionally qualifying time of 52.42 seconds. Peter Antor came in third at 53.70 seconds. GVSU dominated the 3000-meter steeplechase, taking the top three places. Chris Hammer (9:17.31) took first, followed by Tyler Emmorey (9:17.68) and Curtis Barclay (9:18.25). All three times met provisionally qualifying marks.

Mike Stowe took third in the javelin throw by hurling 184'. Stowe also won the decathlon by recording a meet record with 6917 points.
